New Publication by Team Members in Akademia Zamojska
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Eng. Stanisław Szombara and Dr. Alicja Jarkowska have co-authored a scholarly article published in Volume 14 of Akademia Zamojska, which was released on December 31, 2024.
The publication focuses on a critical analysis of postwar maps of the Kraków Ghetto produced between 1946 and 2023. The authors conducted a detailed cartographic and historical assessment of the available maps, taking into account their varying quality and the potential impact of inaccuracies on the reconstruction of the ghetto's spatial layout and the experiences of its inhabitants.
The article first presents the history of the ghetto and then analyzes 35 maps in terms of their content and accuracy. Key elements examined include the street layout, street names, buildings, boundaries, and other significant features. The study helps systematize knowledge of the available cartographic sources and assess their value for further research into the spatial history of the Kraków Ghetto during the German occupation.
